I think it’s an understatement to say that I find the term “hiker” to be very overused. And yet one of the things that I love about this term is that it means something to people who have a lot of time to hike, and most of them go for a long time without realizing they’re hiking.

Matt has a lot of time. Over seven hours of a hike brings him to the top of the pass to the summit of Mount Hood to see the most breathtaking view of all the most beautiful parts of the state of Oregon. And yet, most people who go that long without realizing that they are hiking, go straight home. I mean, people go to college and then leave a few years later to go back to school in the same city.

He’s not going to be a dick, and he definitely shouldn’t be a dick. He was just going to be a bit of a dick and it was no big deal to him but it was just something to be feared.
